篠竹を用いた宮城県産の目籠です。
江戸時代から続く宮城県大崎市のかご作り。
その地域に自生する篠竹と呼ばれるしなやかな竹を使って編まれています。
ですが、時代の流れと共に生産量は減少しており、篠竹だけで作られる昔ながらの素朴なカゴは数名の高齢の職人さんが作るもののみとなっています。
宮城県の篠竹細工はとても軽く、手当たりも柔らかいため、キッチン周りにおいてとても使いやすいことで知られています。

※使用後はよく乾燥させて、風通しの良いところに保管してください。
水気が残っているとカビの原因となります。
壁などに下げて収納いただくと、乾燥の面でも良く、さらにインテリアとしても素敵なのでおすすめです。

This traditional Mekago (woven bamboo basket) is handcrafted in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, using shinodake bamboo, a supple native bamboo prized for its flexibility and durability.
Basket weaving in Osaki City, Miyagi, has been practiced since the Edo period. Each basket is woven from locally harvested shinodake bamboo, preserving a centuries-old craft that has become increasingly rare. Today, these simple, traditional baskets made entirely from shinodake are crafted by only a handful of elderly artisans, making each piece especially meaningful.
Miyagi's shinodake baskets are renowned for their exceptional lightness and smooth, gentle feel, making them a practical and comfortable choice for everyday use in the kitchen. Whether used for draining vegetables, storing produce, or organizing household items, they combine beauty with functionality.
Each basket is individually handwoven, showcasing the warmth and character of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and natural materials.
